PLC – Behavioral
PLC is a special purpose private school and day treatment facility serving students grades K-6 in Monmouth, Maine. PLC serves students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs in a highly structured and supported educational environment with therapeutic behavioral support and clinical counseling. PLC employs certified special education teachers who deliver specially designed instruction to each individual student. PLC social workers provide weekly individual counseling centered around individualized treatment plan goals. Behavioral Health Professionals offer one on one support through modeling, hurdle help, prompting, and positive reinforcement, following a School Wide Positive Behavioral Support System (SWPBSS) where students’ efforts, attempts, and successes are recognized and rewarded through various means of reinforcement including participation in a token economy, school store, and weekly off campus field trips. PLC staff are trained in a trauma informed therapeutic crisis intervention system used to assist students in their most difficult moments, with an emphasis on de-escalation and ensuring school safety.
PLC – Developmental
PLC also serves children with developmental disabilities in grades K-6 while utilizing evidence-based practices. Programming is individualized and utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, (ABA). PLC students work on targeted goals throughout the day during structured learning times and naturally occurring activities such as outside play, social time, and lunch. PLC uses the Assessment of Basic Learning and Language Skills (ABLLS) to inform and provide instruction. Progress towards goals is recorded and the data is used to inform continued instruction. PLC students develop skills that will allow them to access their education to their best ability and form meaningful relationships with teachers, caregivers, and family members. PLC believes that regular communication with parents and caregivers provide our young learners with the best supportive team possible. We believe in the carryover of skills and aim to support and guide parents through the learning process. PLC celebrates all steps towards reaching each milestone as we nurture the great partnership between our program and the caregivers of our students.
